West London College held its prestigious Student Awards 2025 last week, bringing together students, alumni, partners, staff, and families to honour the exceptional achievements of students across a wide range of disciplines. Held at Hammersmith & Fulham College, the evening was a vibrant celebration of dedication, resilience, and transformation, the first since the college received its Ofsted ‘Good’ rating.

The event began with a stylish reception at the college’s TASTE Restaurant, featuring a delicious spread of plant-based canapés prepared by Hospitality and Catering students. From there, the college’s sports hall was transformed into an elegant awards venue, thanks to stunning décor and lighting. The ceremony opened with a special guest performance from students Liam Smith (guitar), Samia Chahad (vocals), Kane Hosten (percussion) and Maximus Miller (piano), all studying music at The Rhythm Studio, covering ‘Rather Be’ by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne and CeeLo Green’s ‘Forget You.’
Principal and CEO Karen Redhead OBE then welcomed attendees with a powerful message of celebration and reflection. She said: “This evening is about celebrating our students – those who have worked hard, overcome obstacles, and demonstrated a growth mindset. Their determination, resilience, and ambition make us all incredibly proud.”
Carole Kitching, who was recently appointed Chair of the Corporation, inspired students as she talked about embracing learning throughout their individual journeys. She said: “We are living in a world which is changing faster than perhaps at any time in history. More than half of the jobs that will exist in ten years’ time do not exist right now. We probably don’t even know what some of them will be. That is why learning is such a gift; being able to learn throughout your life means you can look forward to the future, be excited about opportunities, feel confident you can do well. I am sure you are all going to do well.”
Guest speaker Manuel Silva, founder of Top Baller and former West London College student, delivered a passionate and deeply personal keynote speech. He shared his journey from uncertain beginnings to building a global football brand and reminded students: “Don’t be afraid to start uncertain. Don’t be afraid to fail. Just make sure you show up. Keep going. Build your dream brick by brick – even when no one’s watching, because one day, they will.”
The evening’s first award, for Excellence in Care, Sport and Protective Services, was presented to Nour, who is progressing to from Level 2 Public Services to Level 3 in September. A consistently positive and inclusive role model, her emotional intelligence, communication skills, and commitment to creating a welcoming environment across departments made her a standout winner.

She is now in full-time employment at the ExCeL Centre in event catering.

Entering the college from Entry Level 3 ESOL, Hamdi has shown unwavering dedication, attending every lesson and workshop while completing all assignments to a high standard.
