Celebrating World Afro Day at WLC

West London College celebrated World Afro Day® yesterday, 15 September 2026, working towards Afro hair freedom in every area of life, for every generation, with a focus on HEEP, Health, Education, Employment and Policy.

A group of staff and students attended the ‘FRO Festival, a three-day street takeover at Coal Drops Yard, celebrating the 10th World Afro Day®, celebrating hair, beauty, culture, food and fashion.

Channel 4 also attended the event, reporting on a new study capturing the experiences of Britons of all backgrounds, which found that many feel discrimination has become part of everyday life. In the report, conducted by the think tank British Future, almost half of those from ethnic minorities said they had experienced prejudice because of their race or nationality in the past year, and nearly 50% of those surveyed believe that racial equality is getting worse, not better.
