This course is for you if you are interested in sport, physical activity, coaching, activity leadership and community sport. It is suitable for learners who want to develop higher level knowledge and practical skills in the sport and physical activity sector.
The main subject areas covered include physical activity, lifestyle and health, the sport landscape, project management, activity leadership, inclusive sport, work exposure, working with young people and coaching practice.
You will develop the knowledge and skills needed to plan, deliver and evaluate safe and effective physical activity sessions. You will also learn how sport and physical activity are delivered in community settings, how to work with different participant groups and how to apply inclusive practice. The course will help you build academic, practical and professional skills, including communication, teamwork, leadership, reflection, problem solving, organisation and independent study.
We recommend that you have a relevant Level 3 qualification, such as A Levels, or another Level 3 study programme.
A typical offer will be based on a minimum of 64 UCAS tariff points, alongside GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above.
All applicants will be considered on an individual basis. The College will review your qualifications, skills, personal profile and experience. Applicants may be invited to attend an interview or assessment as part of the admissions process.
You will be assessed through a range of coursework, practical tasks, written assignments, presentations, projects, reflective work and portfolio based evidence.
Assessment will include written reports, reflective accounts, practical delivery, planning and evaluation of physical activity sessions, presentations and work based learning activities. Unit 3 Project Management is assessed through a mandatory Pearson set assignment. All other units are assessed through centre devised assignments.
All units are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. Grades are provisional until confirmed at the Assessment Board.
On successful completion of this course, you may progress to further study, including a Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Sport or a related degree programme at university.
You may also progress into employment or further training in the sport and physical activity sector. Possible career routes include activity leadership, sport coaching, community sport delivery, working with young people, physical activity programmes, inclusive sport delivery, sports development and related roles.
The course can also support progression into higher apprenticeships, Continuing Professional Development opportunities and links with relevant professional bodies such as UK Coaching, Sport England and National Governing Bodies of sport.
