On Wednesday 2 May, Level 3 Hair & Beauty student, Albana Nikolli, entered the Chris & Sons Annual Hairdressing Competition. The 2018 hairdressing Level 3 theme was ‘Classic Bridal’, and each competitor had to fully style a model – including costume and make-up, as well as create a mood board to show the creative process and the thoughts behind their creation.
Albana used a wedding cake as her inspiration and produced an ambitious 3-tiered wedding cake replica for her bridal updo using all the model’s own hair within the allotted time of 2 hours.
The competition was judged on three main criteria; technical skills, overall look, and how well the finished look represented the ideas on the mood board. Iconic hairdresser and judge, Beverly Corbella commended Albana on her work and was amazed that no hair pieces were used in her creation.
Albana said: “I had an amazing time at the competition and absolutely enjoyed the challenge.”
Meyrem Salih, Hairdressing lecturer at West London College, said: “Albana showed great technical skills and effort to produce such an amazing hairstyle. With what she can accomplish in a 2-hour competition, I can only imagine what she’ll achieve in her career path. Great work Albana!”
