This course is designed to support students to develop skills in Enterprise. Green Skills and Sustainability.
Students will have an opportunity to grow fruits and vegetables in our polytunnel as well as cook and sell our organic vegetables. This introductory course will give them the basic knowledge about Gardening and the opportunity to gain practical skills. They will gain knowledge of Health and Safety working practices relevant to the field.
Independent Living skills are embedded in the course giving students an opportunity to develop greater independence with personal hygiene, basic cooking, healthy exercise, employability and communicating with others. The programme of study will include Maths, English and ICT development alongside the practical subjects.
This course is for students that have previous horticulture experience or are interested in progressing onto further learning or training in this field. We make use of our Gardening lessons to improve our communication skills with others and take parts in discussions about endangered animals, habitats and animal groups. Lessons will develop students' confidence to present work to others and talk about important topics like climate change, sustainability.
This course has been designed for students with SEND, currently working at Entry Level 1 or higher.
Before enrolment, students will meet our course tutors to ensure the course is right for them. They may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on their grades.
If a student has an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), we will need a formal consultation with the Local Authority who issued it, prior to enrolment.
All students will compile a portfolio of evidence that will contain a mixture of photographs, witness statements, personal statements and course work. The portfolios are internally assessed and verified prior to external verification by an Awarding Body.
Some students complete a portfolio which records their progress and development using RARPA (Recognising and Recording Personal Achievement), these portfolios are internally verified.
Most students will be entered for Functional Skills English and Maths live assessments at the level indicated during initial assessments and verified through continuous diagnostic assessments.
Progression for each learner is individually planned. If students successfully complete this programme of study they can progress onto another vocational pathway, Foundation learning, Supported Internship or mainstream options. Some learners at the end of their academic journey will progress onto community Provision.

All students will participate in small group sessions comprising no more than 10 students. The study methods are a mix of practical, theory and independent research completed by students with appropriate support.
Students will be required to:
- Undertake enterprise activities and fundraising events as part of the course
- Work as part of a team and support others
- Undertake specified work experience placements
School Leavers (16-18)
If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.
