Functional Skills in Maths is ideal for anyone who wants to build confidence with everyday numbers and gain a solid foundation in practical maths. You will work towards a nationally recognised Level 1 qualification that proves your ability to apply maths in real-life situations at home, at work or in further education.
On this course, you will:
- Learn how to use maths to solve everyday problems, including budgeting, shopping, managing bills, measuring, and working out timings for travel or appointments.
- Focus on real-life, practical examples rather than abstract equations, making maths more accessible and easier to understand.
- Improve your skills in numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, shape, space and data handling, all within familiar and useful contexts.
- Gain the confidence to apply maths in work-based situations and daily tasks, from understanding payslips and using timetables to comparing prices and interpreting charts or graphs.
This course is particularly well-suited to those who prefer learning by doing and want to see how maths applies to real life. Whether you are looking to gain a qualification, improve your job opportunities or simply feel more confident using numbers, this course is a valuable and practical step forward.
Daytime classes are available at Hammersmith & Fulham College, Ealing Green College and Southall Community College. We also have evening classes available at both Hammersmith & Fulham College and Ealing Green College.
You will have an assessment with our course teachers at enrolment to check your current maths level.
You will be regularly assessed during your course and receive feedback to help you develop the skills required for the exams.
Functional Skills Maths is assessed on practical maths skills that are relevant to everyday life, work, and further learning. The assessments are designed to test how well you can apply maths in real-world situations, rather than just memorise formulas.
