Health and Social Care - Level 2

ABOUT THIS COURSE

This course is a natural progression from a level 1 course and is for you if you want to find out more about Health and Social Care and have an interest in working in a related field within that industry.

The course is divided into units studied over the year with a tutorial and additional units in English and Maths. It covers all aspects of Health and Social Care including Looking After Children, Health and the Environment, Starting Work, Personal Effectiveness and Nutrition and Health. It is both a practical and academic course that is all evidence/portfolio based with no exams. You will be required to study English and Maths up to level 2.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need:

  • Two to four GCSEs at grade 3 or above (including English or maths); or
  • Functional or Key Skills awards at Level 1; or
  • Foundation Learning Level 1 Certificate or Award; or
  • BTEC Level 1 Diploma; or
  • Pre-access level 1 qualification; or
  • NVQ 1 or equivalent.

Successful completion of internal assessment is also required.

Students without Level 1 functional skills / key skills will be offered the opportunity to achieve prior to progressing onto a vocational Level 2 programme. By exception, students assessed at Entry Level 3 literacy may be accepted subject to the provision of additional support following interview and will be expected to achieve Level 2 in English and maths by the end of the programme.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

You could continue your studies and gain relevant work experience, knowledge and skills. You can either progress onto a related course such as a BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care, Access to Nursing and Social work courses and then onto university, or move into employment in fields related to the Health and Social care Industry. You could gain employment within jobs such as a Nurse, Nanny, Social and Health Care Worker, care assistants, Nursing assistants, Physiotherapists and Child Care worker, Biomedical scientist, Radiologists and Radiographers.

STUDY METHODS

You will learn in dedicated classrooms through debates and coursework.
All learners will be required to undertake work experience.
This course runs for 1 year full time 3 days a week.

FEES

If you will be aged 16 to 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your studies and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course will be free.
