Pathway to IT

Suitable For: 16-18
Available at: Hammersmith & Fulham College
ABOUT THIS COURSE

This course is for you if you are planning a career in IT, and want to study at a higher level in the next academic year.

As well as introducing the employment areas of IT, this course will also develop the learning and skills you need to be successful at Entry 3 and beyond.

You will learn important skills such as being organised and working with others as well as how to use a variety of software packages, and will study English and Maths as part of the overall Study Programme.

All students will have a personal tutor who will support them throughout the course.

You will also be required to take part in personal, social and employability skills activities.

On completion of the course, you will achieve the Pearson BTEC Entry Level 3 Award in Vocational Studies.

The Award in Vocational Studies is ideal for learners who are not yet ready to commit to a larger qualification.

Mode of attendance: three to four days a week. You will also have to complete some independent work.

The course is offered at Hammersmith and Fulham College.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have achieved qualifications in English and maths at GCSE Grade 1 in both English and maths.

You will have an interview to make sure the course is right for you.

If you do not have any qualifications you will be asked to take an English and maths test at enrolment.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

The majority of the course is assessed through coursework, a mixture of in class assignment projects and presentations. Mathematics and English may be assessed via an examination.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

Learners who complete this course go on to Level 1 in IT, but progression to other subjects is also possible at this level. Each campus offers their own variety of subjects at Level 1.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will learn in dedicated classrooms, using the latest software and equipment.  Your assignments will combine elements of basic IT use, with general vocational skills, with separate classes for English & Maths. You will have up to 16 hours of timetabled classes each week including a group tutorial with your personal tutor, who will support and encourage you throughout the duration of the course.
