ABOUT THIS COURSE

If you're interested in a career in the service industry, this taster course can help give you an overview of the various careers available, covering:

  • Hospitality & Catering
  • Travel and Tourism
  • Hair & Beauty

In addition to finding out about the different vocational pathways, you'll further develop your English and maths, and study skills as well as your personal and social skills.

The curriculum includes vocational content, personal and social development, study skills, enrichment, tutorial and English and maths. There will also be an opportunity to do work experience with a suitable external employer or internal work placements.

Term 1 Hair & Beauty (12 weeks)

Term 2 Hospitality & Catering (10 weeks)

  • Food Safety - Level 2

Term 3 Travel & Tourism (11 weeks)

  • End-of-term celebration
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

At enrolment, you will have an interview with our course tutors to ensure the course is right for you. You may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on your grades.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

Your assessments are designed to match what you’ve learned. All your work will be marked by your tutors, giving you a chance to show off your skills in real-world situations.

You’ll build a portfolio of your coursework, showcasing your progress throughout the course. Plus, you’ll get hands-on experience through practical assignments and receive feedback from your tutors. Some units, and elements such as GCSEs/Functional Skills, may be assessed by external exams.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

After completing this course, you'll be well-prepared for further study in one of the areas covered.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

All learners participate in group sessions as well as individual study. The study methods are a mix of practical, theory and independent research, completed by learners with appropriate support where necessary.

FEES

School Leavers (16-18)

If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.
