ABOUT THIS COURSE

The Level 3 Award in the Installation and maintenance of Air Source Heat Pumps (LCL) includes bespoke on-line teaching materials from Pike Education. Our heat pump qualification is specifically aimed at existing fossil fuel plumbing and heating engineers and giving them the necessary training to upskill their existing skills to install heat pump systems. You will continue to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment within the Building Engineering Services (BES) Renewable sector.

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the requirements for installing heat pump systems, the different operational characteristics of each type of heat pump, namely air, ground and exhaust air heat pumps, their components, the principles of heat pump selection, system design, emitter selection, hydraulics, the preparatory work required for heat pumps installations and the requirements to install, commission and hand over heat pump systems. 

You will also cover the health and safety risks and regulations and standards relating to the installation, testing, and commissioning of heat pump systems. The objective of this qualification is for you to demonstrate that you are competent in accordance with legislation, regulations, and industry standards.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need:

  • A full Level 3 Plumbing and Heating qualification
  • Evidence of recent CPD and work experience, if your qualification is more than 5 years old

You will also have an interview with our course tutors at enrolment, so we can ensure the course is right for you.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

Full engagement per week in class set projects, home study tasks and successful completion of end of course examination.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Classroom based, theory and practical tasks, home study tasks.

You will take part in classroom sessions where you will learn about the new requirements and legislation You will have the opportunity to discuss the subjects with your course tutor and peers, and receive full support to pass your end of course examination. You will also be offered an independent careers assessment, learn about other green skills qualifications and receive a preferential rate to sign up to any new course with WLC.

Adult Students (19+)

If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August before your course starts, are resident in London, and have the legal right to stay in the UK for at least 12 months, you may be eligible to study for free, depending on your circumstances and chosen course. For more information, please click here.
